Lawrence H. Linden, Founder and Trustee

Larry Linden is the Founder of the Linden Trust for Conservation (LTC), focused on Federal policies that will contribute materially to solving the climate change problem.  In its early years,  LTC led projects to create over $250M in trust funds to conserve forests in Canada and Latin America.   Our current work is focused on securing sufficient Federal policy for two important, yet under-resourced, climate-change mitigation fields: (1) carbon dioxide removal from the atmosphere, an urgently needed complement to emission reduction, and (2) next-generation geothermal power production, a highly promising complement to other clean-power production techniques.

Larry has also been personally active in lobbying for LTC’s objectives, in conjunction with LTC’s 501(c)(4) partner, LTC Action, and advising and supporting political leaders who work on these causes.

In 2008, Larry retired as Advisory Director at Goldman Sachs, where as a Partner he was a leader of the build-out of firm’s global expansion through the 1990s and, later, helped launch Goldman’s environmental markets program.   Earlier, he was a Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he advised corporations in the industrial, technology, and financial sectors, and previously was a member of the White House Staff, working on issues in energy, transportation, and the environment.

Larry is a member of the board of the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, a member and former chair of the board of the World Wildlife Fund, and a former member and chair of the board of Resources for the Future.  He has lectured on climate policy and ecosystem conservation at Yale, Columbia, Princeton, MIT, and the Council on Foreign Relations.

In the business world, Larry served for 9 years as a trustee of TIAA, the operating arm of the TIAA-CREF complex.

He received a BSE from Princeton University and an MS and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Roger Ullman, Co-Founder and Executive Director

Roger Ullman is chief executive of the foundation Linden Trust for Conservation and of its related 501(c)(4) organization, LTC Action.  Linden Trust and LTC Action seek to secure broad, effective and efficient Federal climate policy, with a current focus on carbon dioxide removal and next-generation geothermal power production.  Mr. Ullman co-founded Linden Trust and became its first Executive Director in 2006.  From 2002 to 2006 he was at Rainforest Alliance, managing the world’s leading Forest Stewardship Council certifier, with operations in more than 50 countries.  For nearly two decades before that he worked on Wall Street, most recently as a Managing Director of investment banking at Merrill Lynch, where he founded and built the firm’s mergers and acquisitions business in Latin America.  He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in history from Harvard College.
